FLORIDA WEATHER REPORT
I just got off the phone with someone who was trying to sell me magazine subscriptions. I said, "Look, I just got kicked out of one place because I couldn't pay the rent. I can't buy any magazines."
It turns out I'm talking to a 42-year-old woman from Florida who was evicted back in May. "I got sick, I only had three months left on my lease and they wouldn't negotiate with me," she told me. "I couldn't believe it."
I told her it was a story I heard more and more, "especially in the last four years."
"You have
that right," she said.
"We have a chance to fix that in two weeks," I said.
"I see we're together on this," she said.
"Absolutely."
"You know, as I look back, my life was always so much better under a Democratic president than the Republicans," she told me.
I agreed. "Funny about that, huh," I said.
She doesn't believe the polls, either; she said she doesn't know "a single person" voting for Bush "except for really rich people, and some of the born-agains who are too far gone to make sense."
She wished me luck and said she hoped I could afford some reading material after President Kerry takes over.
