GIVE 'EM HELL, RUSS
Russell Mokhiber is one of my heroes. He's the editor of
Corporate Crime Reporter and right now, he's on C-SPAN talking to the National Press Club; naturally, there's only a handful of reporters in the room as he speaks on corporate financial fraud.
He's ripping Bush and Ashcroft for their total indifference to corporate crime. He points out that New York attorney general Elliot Spitzer is not really doing such a great job, either, "but in the valley of the blind, the one-eyed man is king." He says Spitzer's political ambitions are causing him to "pull his punches."
He cites the recent New York Times series on workplace deaths, and the complete lack of accountability for employers. (A system used to be in place where a criminal investigator was sent out to the death scene, but apparently they've forgotten how to enforce any law that affects business.)
