A GROWING SCANDAL

Oh, this is getting good. John Conyers, the ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, sent John Ashcroft a letter this week pointing out that one of Ashcroft's former staffers has been implicated in the Westar scandal - and that Ashcroft also received some of the tainted contributions.

It now appears clear that you, in fact, attended the fundraiser for House majority Leader Tom DeLay's political action committee where Westar was rewarded with access to lawmakers in exchange for its $56,000 contribution and where quid pro quos were possibly discussed.

Conyers notes the weekend fundraiser was held at a Virginia resort for two days, and that Ashcroft's presence makes it likely he was privy to those discussions. "This presents a clear conflict of interest for you and the Department and requires that you appoint a special counsel."

Start writing letters. Ask your congressman to support an independent counsel.
